Success with Plan Bay Area

You can’t rely on a fortune teller when it comes to the future of the Bay Area: you need a solid plan. That’s why the League participated in Plan Bay Area, which was approved earlier this month by the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC). Learn more about Plan Bay Area and read the letter that LWVSF Past President Patricia McGovern sent to ABAG and MTC.

Taking Action on the Environment

There are two steps you can take right now to help protect our environment:

1)  The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) must remain intact in the face of opposition from industry and developer interests. Show your support for CEQA by emailing or faxing a letter to your Assembly Member. Find sample text for your letter and talking points at the LWVC website

2)  Use the email template from LWVUS to thank Senator Barbara Boxer and Senator Diane Feinstein for their work to cut carbon pollution from power plants. The template is customizable, so let them know that you appreciate their efforts and hope they’ll work to increase support for the Obama Administration’s plan.

Your Next Step is the Cure

Every attendee of the League of Women Voters of San Francisco's 2013 "Women Who Could Be President" Gala could not fail to be impressed by the passionate, ebullient, and driven Honoree Bonnie J. Addario.

Coming up September 29th, League members and friends have the opportunity to join Bonnie once more at the 2013 San Francisco "Your Next Step Is the Cure" 5K Walk/Run event benefiting the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation. As Bonnie reminded us at the Gala, lung cancer is the number one cancer killer, which can strike

anyone at any time - regardless of his or her health, habits and background.

Join friends in the effort to raise desperately needed funds and erase the stigma surrounding lung cancer this fall! To register or learn more, see below.
