Thank you to the Board of LWVSF for such a warm welcome at the Annual Meeting on June 6, 2015.  I attended my first board meeting on July 21st and see that I have much to learn from the League and my peers.  I have met most of our board members and some other active members as well.  I look forward to meeting more of you and working with you on the revived Education Committee.

One of my main interests is Human Trafficking and what we can do on the local level to educate the community about its rampant existence right here at home, and learn what we may do to mitigate it as much as in our power.  Did you know that when there is a major sporting event in the area, human trafficking skyrockets? Did you know that many door-to-door magazine salespeople are trade slaves?  If we can save one life, it will be worth it.  If you are interested in working with me and others to figure out what it is we can do and accomplish, I may be reached at

The committee will also be working with the State League on their Study Guide and Consensus Questions. Here is the latest from our dedicated Eleanor Yick, Chair of the State Education Committee:

“We have submitted both documents to the State Board for discussion and, hopefully, approval at their August meeting.

Assuming approval, both documents will need to be copy edited and inserted into a Reader’s Study Guide and a Leader’s Guide. The goal is to have these documents posted to the League’s website as soon as possible – hopefully, by the end of August or beginning of September. I will also send out a copy of the Study Guide and Consensus Questions in Background Packet #5.

The due date for the Consensus Report from your League will be by May 15, 2016. If you finish earlier than this date, you will be able to submit your results as soon as you finish. Some CA Leagues are participating in the two LWVUS National Studies and, thus, our timeline allows them time to focus on those in the Fall and ours in the Spring.”

Based on her report, we will have some work to do.  Let’s get the elections and holidays behind us and then get to work on the Consensus Questions and resultant report to the state.  If you wish to be involved in determining a course of action and educating our community on the ability of our high school students to get a college education, you may reach me at  I would love to see some of you who are involved in our educational system participate in this important topic.

Thank you and I look forward to meeting you at one of our events in the near future.
